Privacy Policy
TapIt Connect is in private, invite-only beta. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who sees it. If you signed a Beta Tester Agreement, that agreement controls where the two differ.
Who we are
TapIt Connect LLC, a Missouri limited liability company (“TapIt,” “we”). TapIt identifies industrial equipment from photographs and returns specifications, cross-references, parts, and manuals.
What we collect
- Account information: name, email address, organization, and role. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, never in plain text.
- What you submit: equipment and nameplate photos, the identifications and corrections you make, plant and asset records, files you upload, and questions you ask.
- Location: where a scan was taken, when your device provides it, and plant addresses you enter.
- Technical data: device and browser type, app version, IP address, and error logs.
We do not intentionally collect photos of people, biometric data, payment information, or information from anyone under 18.
Who owns it
You own what you submit; TapIt owns what it produces from it. See the Terms of Use.
How we use it
- To run the service: identify equipment, return specifications and documents, and keep your plant records.
- To improve the service: verify, correct, and expand our equipment database, and improve the AI models that read nameplates.
- To create de-identified or aggregated information about equipment (for example, how common a pump model is). These do not identify you or a specific facility.
- To contact you about your account and the beta.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, publish, or disclose information that identifies a specific facility or person, except:
- Service providers that run TapIt for us under confidentiality obligations: Google Cloud (hosting and storage), Vercel (website hosting), Anthropic (AI processing of photos and questions), and a web search provider (to find manufacturer documents).
- Your own team, when you share plants or records with people you invite.
- When required by law, or with your consent.
Photos of people
TapIt is for photographing equipment. Please keep people out of frame. We do not perform facial recognition or try to identify anyone. If a submitted photo shows a person, tell us and we will delete it.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while your account is active. Email us to delete your account or your submissions; we will delete or de-identify identifiable data within 30 days. A facility owner can ask us to stop collecting at their site and delete that site’s identifiable data, and we will.
Cookies
This website sets no tracking or advertising cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. The TapIt app stores your sign-in on your device so you stay logged in.
Where data is stored
In the United States, on Google Cloud.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing the address below.
Changes
This is a beta policy and will change before general release. We will post updates here and tell beta users about material changes.
